Battlefield AcupunctureGeorgios is a 55 year old retiree who presented with foot pain. His morning walks were truncated due to increasing pain in the right foot. This was all the more problematic, because Georgios lost is left lower leg and foot in an industrial accident 12 year before.
At the initial consultation, he also mentioned that he had persistent phantom pain in the amputated leg. This pain was daily and severe. It had persisted since the original accident. He had been advised that he would have to learn to live with it, which to his credit he had. Georgios was treated with acupuncture points on the body for his foot pain. I also used ear points in what is called the 'Battlefield Protocol". I wanted to see if this treatment could alleviate his phantom pain. At the following appointment, one week later, the foot pain had eased, but the phantom pain had disappeared. At follow up after 1 year, Georgios continues to be painfree. FertilityJennifer presented for help with falling pregnant. She was 31, her partner 33. They had been 'trying' to conceive for 12 months. There were no medical reasons for this 'infertility", both Jennifer and her partner were in good health.
As we progressed with the course of treatment, Jennifer discovered that her sleep improved and her mood improved. After 2 months there was no mid cycle spotting, no cramping with the period. At her 14th appointment, Jennifer announced she was pregnant. A healthy pregnancy was followed by a straightforward labour and the birth of a beautiful baby girl. 2 years later, Jennifer and her partner are planning to conceive their second child. She has noticed that her menstrual cycle has altered slightly. We discuss stabilising the menstrual cycle and improving Jennifer's relaxation and reproductive health with a view to conceiving in the New Year. After 4 treatments, the menstrual cycle was improved; at the eighth appointment, Jennifer announced she was pregnant for a second time. Childhood skin conditionShaila's Mother was recommended to Kaye Gartner's Health Centre by a friend who's son suffered from terrible eczema. After watching her three year old daughter suffer with chronic allergies to dust mites for most of her life and after visiting allergy experts, a dermatologist and numerous doctors she was willing to try anything. Shaila would scratch herself to bleeding and had not slept through the night due to itching for more than two years. After only a couple of weeks of laser acupuncture treatment and herbs Shaila was sleeping through the night again. After one month or treatments, her skin was free of red welts and marks. It can flare up, if Savannah is exposed to an allergen, but this is becoming even more manageable. Her mother writes "My daughter loves our visits to the centre and its wonderful to know that we've found a solution. I wish I'd gone to Kaye Gartner Health Centre years ago." |
Recurring Headaches
Rebecca is a young school teacher, age 26, with a history of migraine headaches. Rebecca takes medication daily to prevent migraines. She she takes a second medication for frequent tension headaches.
She presents with headache that has been acutely painful for three days. Her medication, including prescription medication has touched the pain. She reports her pain as 10/10. She is highly distressed as she is due to travel overseas shortly. Rebecca is diagnosed with liver Qi stagnation, blood and Qi deficiency. She is treated with acupuncture and massage. When she returns for a second treatment two days later, her pain is 5/10. A second acupuncture treatment reduces this to 3/10. She is pain-free and ready to travel after four acupuncture treatments and two massage treatments. Anxiety, Depression and Menopause Janis suffered with anxiety, grief and insomnia. At the same time she was going through menopause and its associated symptoms, including hot flushes.
She had not had acupuncture before this time and was apprehensive that it might be" too painful" – or too “out there” for her. By following a prescribed course of Chinese medicine and regular acupuncture over the course of a year, Janis managed to come out the other end stronger and wiser. She is now sleeping well, is free from anxiety and rebuilding her life after so much loss. The hot flushes are managed too.
